Hi all,
Been a lurker here for some time, and intend to attend a meeting in the
future, when my daughter is a bit older.
Have an OT question that someone may have advice on.
Panasonic have a 'feature' called Viera which provides online access to
various services.
After I updated my Freeview channel information today, every time I power
on the TV an ad appears for about 1 second on the bottom of 1/5 of the
screen. I was not asked to opt-in to this ad and find it outrageous that
Panasonic would take it upon themselves to sell me to advertisers after I
have bought their TV!
If I unplug the internet connection to the TV the ad does not appear, but I
am left with a lessened experience than what I paid for.
I have contacted the ASA and Ofcom online.
Is there anything else I can do? Contact a politician??

Have you contacted Panasonic UK and told them of your upset about
this? Perhaps demand a payment from them for reading their unwanted
advertising crap? Yes, I'm being serious.

I agree about complaining to Panasonic, but a quick search turned up
this page about turning it off:

Ironically, you need to click through an ad to read it.
Another possibility would be to try blocking the address it connects to
to fetch the ads on your router, although this might be a problem if the
same address is for other things.

Up for grabs (for free) I have an EPSON Perfection 1660 PHOTO Scanner.
Purposefully bought a while back because it has great Linux/SANE
compatibility - you can even script what happens when you push the button
on the front, how jolly.
EPSON Info here (including their own Linux driver, but personally I'd just
use the one SANE comes with)...

Anyway it's surplus to requirements as I've got one of those MFP's, a

is a bitch with fees now - just isn't worth it.

Promise IDE PCI raid controller, a complete set of OS/2 manuals, a brand

binned stuff on Stafford Freegle. Saves it going to landfill.....
Which costs approximately £100 per ton now and that then comes out of
the council tax that we all pay :(
Or, if you like, you could join Penkridge Freeworld-Recycling (closest
one to you apart form Stafford Freegle) and pop them on there. If you
are interested let me know. I can't list them myself though you'll
need to be a member.

a look.

Hmm, are you sure it's Freecycle? They may (hopefully) have changed
and become a Freegle group. Whatever, I don't recommend Freecycle but
do look up Freegle :) It's political I'm afraid.
