To decide the lug's direction...

cards on the table chaps! i'll start a new thread and we can have an open vote PURELY A, B or C... no reasoning or chatter... that way it'll be totally clear and calculable!

A : formal lug (chair etc..)

B : informal lug (purely social for example..)

C : lug with a purpose (e.g. advocating linux)

What can I say, going from a simple questionnaire to splitting the lug into bits, big steps in so few message! Is this the general consensus?

Right, to make a correction to my last post. Way back in about 2001 I tried to contact 'Oliver Keenan'. He is, or was supposed to be the main contact or LUG master for 'South Staffs' LUG. I have never got a reply from him despite trying many times over. If anybody fancies trying be my guest: ozzy(a)cowmob.nu If anybody wants I am willing to look into resurrecting the 'South Staffs' LUG but, with the proviso that we stay as a close, almost Siamese, twinn to the North Staffs LUG. Answers on a postcard please...or e-mail of course :-)

Ok, I have e-mailed the LUG list to make enquiries about all this. I have found that we are actually using the South Staffs mailing list. The North Staffs list is also active hence the confusion sometimes. I'm going to ask if it is possible to get the LUGs designated a little better with regard to names. NorthStaffs and SouthStaffs would seem sensible. Now, what I don't want to do (yes, I'm repeating myself here) is to split this LUG at the moment. Anyway, what's wrong with belonging to both? Nothing. I'm also a member of Wolves LUG and there is no problem there. My main reason for calling for a South Staffs LUG in its own right is so that we can look at meetings that are in South Staffs and not in North Staffs. If, big if, we can get something formed and get some growth in the LUG(s) we can then think about a North & South meet once every six months or so alternating between the two areas? Does that sound good? I'm willing to try such things as making posters and putting them up in shops and libraries promoting the group(s) if this sounds good?

That sounds good to me, we can combine forces then. Are we still going on the "main lug site" with a sub-section for north/south?

As others have said, the LUG isn't big enough to split. Just hold meetings in Stafford & Stoke alternately.

To be honest, I would like to do something with the lug, really get it going, but I have stuff going on at the moment which means I can’t put in as much as I’m guessing a lot of people are expecting of me.
