Have we had someone talk about virtualisation? I've been doing quite a bit at work with Xen Server 6. Could do a demo install and build a virtual machine on it. Maybe a LTSP box and folk could get a session on it at the end? Chris. I could demonstrate the following _only_ if there was enough people expressing interest here on the mailing list (as I'd have to bring some kit down ready-built, don't mind doing it if theres plenty of interested people) - VMware Workstation 8.... this can now run Mac OS X perfectly on Linux, ESXi 5 now runs on this for testing purposes, and most other OS's especially Windows with Unity so your windows applications merge with your Linux desktop. - VMware ESXi 5 / vSphere 5... I an show the new linux-based vCenter management server now available in vSphere 5, it's new web based management and generally show off what an ESXi or cluster of ESXi machines can do. - Proxmox VE 1.9... Show off KVM and OpenVZ virtualization and explain the key differences... also possibly show DRDB in action if I bring two hypervisors with me. - Proxmox VE 2.0... This is still in beta but has better HA support and I haven't played with it much - so this is more of an experiment than a presentation. p.s. I run the Proxmox VE support channel on Freenode if you have Proxmox questions. I know nothing about Xen however, so Chris's presentation could compliment these. Hmm, OK so this is a lovely surprise... Is this February 6th date a lab meeting or a social? I'll need to check if I'm free. I'm considering bringing both my home-made Proxmox hypervisors with me, and running Workstation 8 and an ESXi Test Lab (two ESXi 5 machines and a vCenter management server) on a laptop I bring with me. Since the two hypervisors are in a little data cabinet I may as well bring the whole thing, perhaps... Depends... does anyone have any interest in... - OpenMediaVault (the new project by the main developer of FreeNAS, but this time it's Debian based not BSD) - Vyatta... the Debian based router operating system that is trying to rival Cisco. - Drobo, specifically I have the DroboPro unit with 8 x 2 TB disks with dual drive redundancy using iSCSI - A little home-made NAS I created out of an old Via EPIA-ML motherboard & case, the OS boots off an SSD. If so I'll just bring the whole thing... saves me from having to set anything up... will just need an internet feed (a spare network port with dhcp will do), a power plug or two, and a very empty desk to put it on.
