Pretty much all I know is that your BIOS has to support it and it
needs enabling in said BIOS. Other than that I've thought of setting
it up but never got around to it...I'm sure I did see a HOW TO so if I
can find it I'll post up the link.

I've done it on windows at work. Had to export all the mac addresses
from the DHCP server to produce a batch file to stick as a scheduled
task.
I'm sure you can find a WOL utility and bash script it.

Great I've managed to get it to work, quite easy to be honest I am just
writing it up and putting it in a form I can read. was quite scary when I
issued the wakeonlan command the computer in question fired up.

I got it running on a file/media server its the household jack of all trades
machine and its going into the loft when I get it boarded out/converted I
plan on putting some racks in the loft as well it's really going to free up
a lot of space and with wake on lan its going to be off pretty much all the
time until its needed(saving the electric) I'm working on a few scripts so
the missus can start it up with having to do very much.
