I can see why l, but I have a feeling freenode is more available to people because it is often in the default client I.e. xchat. I am not personally opposed, but if we do move, I am very much for having an IRC.staffslug.org.uk A record. The main name of the server is pretty ugly looking. On a side note, the Java client for the site, can that be used to connect to our current irc channel and if so, is it easy to install and require much in bandwidth usage from the site? (maybe a stupid question, but I'm good at asking them!)
