Hi,
New members here and I just wanted to say hello really.
Had a quick look through the mailing list archives and there's mention
of meeting in Keele - always handy, I work on the science park at
Internet Central.
Have noticed there are two Staffordshire LUG's on the www.lug.org.uk
listings - whats with the other one? Seems to be dead anyways.
How often do you guys meet and if there's any need for a hand with the
web site or general access to a good local server for any purpose then
let me know!
Been a user of Linux off and on since I was all of 14 probably, but only
during the last 3 or 4 years been using it properly both as servers and
as desktop use. I occasionally help out with linuX-gamers.net sorting
out any hardware for them, how to guides, forum, etc...
Oh and as for bio stuff... I'm 22, male, came out of uni about a year
ago (up in Bradford) after doing Software Engineering, and currently
living near Kidsgrove but in the next month will have moved down to
Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
Looking forward to getting my hands dirty with whatever needs doing!

Hi, welcome to the LUG. We have a meeting in keele every few weeks,
that I know. A good fellow called Peter runs the meetings. Once you
get to meet the resident nutters i'm sure you will get to like us :)
The LUG you were talking about is the old staffs list, not used, as it
mostly comes here.

Arch Linux is an independent i686-optimized community distribution for
intermediate and advanced Linux users. Utilising a Rolling Release
System packages are regularly updated and an ISO release is just a
snapshot to the stable packages at that time. So there's no need for a
fresh install the command 'pacman –Syu' upgrades the whole system.

I'm a Debian user, occasionally DreamLinux if its intended for use by
people not so knowledgeable about Linux or if its a games/multimedia

I work for KFM, who are based in the Darwin Building, just below where you
are. I think a colleague of mine may of had dealings with Internet Central a
few months ago (after a wireless link to a another building on campus),
maybe it was you, I'm not sure, how many folks work up there?
Anyway, nice to meet you, see you at the next meet (whenever that is??). My
mate old me that tomorrows meet is cancelled, is that correct?

Hi Martin
Nope I don't think we know each other, the only Martin up that way I
know works for Keele Uni as one of their tech guys.
Internet Central provides broadband and now the VoIP phone system for
KFM as you probably know, I work in R&D so the phone system and asterisk
is something I play with daily as well as tinkering with our other Linux
based systems such as hosting and virtualization.
Think someone said earlier the day in the mailing list the next meeting
is February 8th so I'll be at that one.
