Hi,
Before installing Linux on this PC I had a dual OS on the other one
(Mandriva/XP). I fouled up when removing the linux and got left with the
bootloader. It was OK for ages although I had to wait and select XP every
time at boot. Now a snag: On boot the computer gets to 'Verifying Pool
Data......'
hangs giving error code L 99 99 99..........
Any ideas?

It could be a Master Boot Record problem (corrupted). I seem to
remember that there is an automatic way of repairing the 'MBR' on the
Win XP installation disk. However, I don't run XP very often. I fire
it up maybe once every 12 months (or slightly more if I have to repair
my brother's PC). So, I am not sure if it is easy to get to...

You are dead right- it was mbr prob caused by Lilo. I borrowed XP disc and
used the repair tool to re-write the master boot record. And it worked! My
learning curve is currently vertical, at this rate I am in danger of knowing
something.

removing lilo, anyhow learning!

You are quite right-- it just took me this long to work out how to actually
do it!!!
Today I want to download bitdefender. I already dowloaded
bitdefender-console and Mandriva says I've installed it. But where is it?
where's the 'scan now' icon?? Have I downloaded the wrong thing? I had same
prob trying to get flash player, still haven't got it going. Trouble with
vertical learning curves is the tendency to slip back!

Glad to help :-) I thought the tool was on the XP disk but I so rarely
use XP that my memory was little hazy on it...
