[Announce] Next Keele Meeting - Monday 11th Feb 7pm onwards
by Peter Brooks
Hello everyone,
I'm going to be holding another Meeting at Keele University on Monday
the 11th of
Feb in the Chancellors building room CBA1.100. Any other LUG's are welcome to
join.
The meeting will start at about 7pm and run until about 9pm (if not
later), these meetings will now run on the second Monday of each
month.
For this meeting it will be very ad hoc, discussion/fix stuff. The
meeting will be run by one of my friends called Tommy, I am currently
on leave from University doing IT work in Northamptonshire and cannot
guarantee my attendance at this stage.
To get to Keele please follow your favorite directions search engine,
when in the Keele bubble the best place to park is in the Chancellors
car park.
Keele's own directions can be found here:
http://www.esci.keele.ac.uk/kudis/_campusguide/downloads/Keele_campus_gui...
Pretty much when you get up the Hill and enter Keele University
(You'll see lots of nice shiny IC buildings), follow the hill down
into campus.
At the roundabout after traveling down the hill, take the third exit
and follow the road until the next left, then take the next left and
park there.
You should then be outside the chancellors building.
The room itself is in the same area as previous meetings, it's the
first floor following the stairs opposite 'Vite & Eat'.
Hope you can attend.

Next Keele meet
by Peter Brooks
Hi all,
I regret to inform you all that I won't be able to run a meeting at
Keele until September since I'm taking a leave of absence from
University.
I am going to try to get someone to take over meetings in my place, I
might even remain in Stroke for a while. It all depends on the job
market right now.

Arch Linux
by Peter Brooks
Hi all, just wondering who else is using ArchLinux, I've moved to it
since I was getting fed up with Ubuntu and Propaganda perpetuated by
Dick Turpin.
However it's kinda back to the good old days of messing around in
Gentoo for me, but with binaryness.
At least the ATI drivers finally work for this laptop with arch, used
the ati installer and for once the damn thing works. However this
didn't work out of the packaging system, I am remaining a bit
skeptical to pacman but I probably just require more usage to
understand it's unique effects.
I also thing archlinux is poorly named, when searching for help on
google I can often get posts from other distributions because they
include the name arch, however I might just need to modify my search
syntax.
Anyway I still suggest for some to give it a try, since it doesn't
have all the generic rubbish shipped with generic distros it's a lost
faster than for example Ubuntu ever was on my Laptop.
