Server OS
by Kris Douglas
Hi, I have been working with servers running Linux for a while now and I
have come to fond that it is the best OS to do that job, but my question
is....
...What is the best, lightweight (64mb ram, 233mhz x2, 4gb of hdd) Linux
server OS out there?
Any ideas anyone?

PC Screws
by Frank Mitchell
You guys are really helpful. Now can anybody tell me a good place around Stoke where I can buy those little PC Screws? Wilko and B&Q don't sell them, at least not in Crewe. Though you can mail-order bags of them from Radiospares.
Research reveals these screws are typically Pan-Head Machine Screws, and there are two main types:
Case screws are 6-32 (six gauge wire with 32 threads per inch) American National Coarse Thread (UNC) using English Units. Case screws are 1/4-inch long while the similar Hard Drive screws can be 3/16-inch long.
But CD-Rom screws are the finer Metric Standard M3x0.5 (3 mm wire with a 0.5 mm thread pitch) 5-mm or maybe 4-mm long.

Maplin Screws
by Frank Mitchell
Thanks fellas. Maplin sounds about right. I just need to choose Casing Screws with a small head shape to fit recesses in the casing. I only need less than ten, but I wanted to see them first.

Cyan Screen - Can Anybody Explain
by Frank Mitchell
A while ago I got a temporary Hardware Problem with the old CRT on my old but still useful machine. Using Unix Console the White font turned Cyan for that session. From what I remember it only happened once or twice under Unix, while under Windows the same CRT flickered briefly from White to Cyan several times, then back.
Somebody in a User Group reported the same phenomenon, so it looks like a low-voltage problem during the Winter. It hasn't recurred for weeks now, so maybe my old CRT isn't going to crash & burn just yet. Does anybody know the explanation for this?
Anyway that's why I was interested if anybody was giving away an unwanted CRT for free. Though it looks like there's no real urgency now.

17" CRT monitor - free to good home
by Russell Phillips
We have a 17" CRT monitor that we'd like to get rid of. It's in good
condition, works fine, and is free to anyone that can collect it.

Freecycle featured on BBC Midlands Today
by Kris Douglas
Hello all, i know there are a number of freecycle users here on the mailing
list, and I have just watched a BBC plug all about Freecycle.
Pretty cool that stuff like this is being noticed, especially...Linux.
Because the machine that the guys flogged in the broadcast was running
Ubuntu :)

Begging but not for me...
by Kevanf1
Does anybody have an old laptop that they might consider giving away?
No, it's not for me it's for a friend of mine. Well, her daughter
actually. It doesn't have to be fantastic but something like a
Pentium II with about 128mb RAM would do I should think.
I don't hold out much hope but I did promise I would ask :-)

OpenSourceHowTo.org
by Paul Matthews
hi everyone, i've setup a website so that users of open source server side
software can come and look at instructional guides, how-to's, forums,
wiki's and all sorts of other information about setting up software on
Linux for both windows and Linux based networks.
I am currently still working on it, adding new screen shots every day,
hoping to double check a lot of my how-to's once the screen shots are
added, re-write them to increase keyword density of my articles for better
search engine results & once that is done i will hopefully be added
streaming video of my how-to articles using either youtube embed code or
revver embed code.
