Meetings!

Quick email to the group I would like to get meetings going again. At the
moment I am trying to get feedback so something can be arranged and put in
place. Couple of things that people could put in their replies that will
help would be whether or not they would like to attend meetings, where the
people can get to comfortably (i.e none drivers who have to catch buses etc)
and what time. we can talk about a venue that suits once we get an idea of
how many people are interested

linux/open source podcasts

Hiya, Does anyone know of any good linux/open source podcasts? I have a few
in my gpodder
- linuxoutlaws
- distrowatch
- floss weekly
- bsdtalk
Can anyone else add anything to that list? I have a very boring job and for
4 hours a night have bugger all to do

HP / compaq power test wanted

Hello all.
I have a hp / compaq NX7300 which is running Ubuntu 8.10 v slow. Put HD in
my desktop and it flys!
Testing and rescaerch on the 'net indicates that this could be due to power
I.E the cpu clock being slowed as the laptop "thinks" it's got a low
voltage.
I'd like to test with a decent battery (mine is no good) and a known good
adapter.
If anyone has one of these PCs and is willing to let me test then I'd be
very obliged!

IRC channel

Hiya just dropped by the irc channel on freenode (#staffslug) and it says no
one has been there since feb 08
Can we get a channel added to the website I had to check the mailing list
archive to find out. In the absence of any meetings for a while maybe it
might be a good idea to start meeting up maybe we can have some sort of
psuedo meeting on irc to start with? what do the members think of this? I'm
willing to host the thing and maybe we could get the logs put up on the
site?
I would like 2009 to be a great year for staffslug and put us on the map a
bit more and attract a few more users??

Linux Spotting

Shopping yesterday in Asda at Winsford, I saw a cheap Acer Notebook on sale,
specifically advertised to the General Public as a Linux machine. Can anybody
report any other sightings?
