I was thinking of FAT32 for the fact that all flavours of OS can read it. I
know that the newer ones can handle NTFS with ease but I hadn't thought of
using an ext2 or ext3 type as Vista has to be able to read/write
transparently. (Should of researched that as it probably already can!
eek!)

Why FAT 32? use one of the newer formats, they're faster. And any
modern OS can read the NTFS partition.
I normally have 5GB /root 2 swap and the rest /home.
But bear in mind that I don't know much!! (as DT will be quick to tell
you)
