[Staffslug] Man down the pub computers

Yeah but Dell PCs stink and folks know it or they find out real soon after buying. They come pre loaded with enough spyware to reduce them to a crawl before you power up and if they go wrong they get replaced BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR DATA? Dell don't give a flying fuck about your data. We had a customer of a customer recently where we were asked to take a look. They have Dell cover so "no need really, for an indi like you" The Dell SBS stopped, man came (within hours), announced 'new mobo' and left. Came back *2 days later*, changed mobo, "just do a quick reload - there, good as new". Exactly like new in fact! virgin, clean, vanilla etc. "Where is our data?" they asked. "You will have to restore from backups" says the man. No attempt whatsoever to try and carry their data forward onto the new OS instance. Buggered. But, says the man, "it's working - that's what we do" IF they had been with an indi he would have had their server running in hours not days and he would have bust his butt not to lose any data. There is no way a BIG company like Dell can ever provide the same service that a small company can and for those who are prepared to pay for proper service there are plenty of companies setup to do just this. As for MDTPC, well, don't humour him. Just nod and agree.
