[Staffslug] Even more frustration...

Can anybody give me any pointers on a long, long term problem. I have a D-Link router/modem with 4 ports at the back (ethernet of course). I have two PC's currently hooked up to this router (built in switch too) as well as an X-Box 360 Live downstairs (not mine, my son's). All have superb web access. but, no matter what I try or have tired in the past, I cannot get the PC's to talk to each other. I have tried Linux to Linux PC's and Windows to Windows PC's. I know it is a setting in the router but I'm buggered if I know what. I did try replacing the router with a switch just to see if the LAN worked then (manually assigned IP addresses in that case). It worked a treat then. But why will it not work with the router?
