rsync is your friend.
The problem with liveCD is you'll have to burn it over and over which
contrary to popular belief will degrade the disk.
Better to get a USB ext HDD or Pen Drive and rsync to that, once
you've done the first run you can then do incremental updates.
Its possible to do a mirror image as well. I'm lucky in that I have a
12/24 DAT drive that runs under Linux so I backup my main box and my
Laptop.
