Did anyone catch the mention we got in the latest
linuxoutlaws<http://linuxoutlaws.com>podcast?
I also wanted to mention having looked at the other lug's websites is there
anything we can do to "pretty" up the website? I've tried to look at the
few
articles and it looks like they have html tags aplenty? I'm not being
negative or anything but compared to
wolveslug<http://www.wolveslug.org.uk/>it's a bit lacking. Is it the
fault of the CMS we have running? I have loads
of ideas for articles and have a good few written up already, but dont
really want to submit them to the site if they are going to look like the
ones that are already there.
I have a spare box that could be used to test potential replacements to the
site without having to commit to any particular piece of software.
I might be really wrong here and am willing to accept it and If I'm coming
across as agressive please tell me. It's just that I'm very passionate about
having something like the lug in our area being as good as it can be.

I suspect that the articles were moved from one CMS to another, and
no-one thought to check that they displayed correctly. They certainly
used to display correctly.

Andrew: there's no problem with that a few good articles is what we need a
have a few but I'm willing to bet they are miles better than what I have got
so far.
Russ: I agree maybe the articles did work properly on an older site(?) I'd
like to work on getting stuff looking great. I also noticed that the sign up
bit of the site doesn't work? any people coming to the site try to sign up
and it doesn't work aren't going to come back.
I'm no expert when it comes to CMS sites but I'm willing to put the time to
get it looking good/working right. What I'd like to happen is if members of
the lug know of any good open source CMS they could maybe post to the
mailing list? I will try and set it up on a box I have local to me and
encourage members to test it and give their opinion. If anyone feels like im
trying to take over, I'm not I just want to help.

I've quickly looked at Drupal and am working on it. Does anyone have any
experience with Drupal?

Email/Speak to Ron @ Wolves Lug I think you will find their website is
Drupal. I myself am a Joomla bod, while intrinsically they are the same,
having played with Drupal on a number of occasions Drupals inherent
complexity gives it the impression of being more secure. But as any fool
knows "Anything is breakable" a couple of years back Xoops (Project) was
hacked. :-(
You will also find that a number of Podcast sites, Linux Outlaws for
example, also use Drupal. I prefer Joomla myself so its all down to
choice really there are about 10+ cms solutions out there all have
exactly the same basic principles TBH the only constraint is the
template if you are able to create custom templates then you'll be good
to go if not readily available ones can work just as well.

Hi,
I agree, the site does need a new look/feel etc. with articles.
About anything that may not be looking the best on the site, I guess I
missed it, sorry about that.
If anyone would like to get involved about running the site / admin etc.
Please shout up.
I remember a while ago we were talking about moving from e107 to Joomla,
I did have a look at it but there it appeared that we may loose the
forum board stuff. Again if anyone has any ideas on new CMS systems /
transferring stuff etc. Shout up!
Sorry for not getting back to the list sooner, but had stuff happening
at home.
