...is that the BSDanywhere live CD works a treat. It's a bit slow
compared to the other live disks I've been trying (it's like being a
kid given the keys to the sweetshop) but it does work. Web access is
fine as can be seen as this is being sent via Firefox running on
BSDanywhere.
The bad news however.... I thought I'd give the live USB stick
another go. Nope, stumbles at the first block. I have USB-FDD,
USB-HDD, USB-Zip and USB-CD as option in my BIOS so I would have hoped
that it would work. It doesn't, on USB-CD and USB-HDD I get 'invalid
disk, press any key to continue' coming up. It then goes straight to
the next boot option. The other BIOS options don't even give that
simply going to the next valid disk available and booting from that
(hard drive in this case).
If anybody is interested the USB stick is a Den Elec 2gb 'blue pill'
model. It has been formatted and installed exactly according to the
letter from the pendrive linux site <
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/>
utilising Kubuntu 8.10 All the messages came up positive while the
system was installing.
I may one day try a true USB-HDD to boot from. Just to see if that
option does work. For now I am left USB stick bootless on this PC.
Maybe when I upgrade...eventually.
