Has anybody tried or upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 yet? I tried it on my old Proliant ML 330e. It buggered it :-( It ran fine with 10.04 but as soon as 10.10 tried to start all I can get is a CLI instead of my usual GUI. From the error message I'm getting it seems it must be something to do with the video driver. The message is: Fatal server error: no screens found Then after that xinit:No such file or directory (errno2) xinit:No such process errno3: server error Guess what? I'm stumped. I shall check the log file at /var/log/Xorg.0.log but it might well be written in Arabic for me. I never turn on the Compiz effects as I find it slows it down to much, I use metacity effects using "Ubuntu Tweaks". What I have noticed is that if I turn on Metacity compositing effects, Tuxcart has a noticable lag to it and is unplayable. Where as in 10.04 metacity compositing didnt effect Tuxcart game.

Another difference is that there is now a bottom and right edge auto scroll bars on most of the system apps eg "Disc Utility" which I sure were not there before. I realise this is for the netbook users but its abit distracting.

To be honest its a pretty rubbish graphics card, the PC's been cobbled together from parts out of the attic. Its probably from about 2005. I've had motherboards that have had better onboard chips than this card. But it has got a non-motorised heatsink. Eugene

The feature matrix can be found here (see the NV4x column): http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix One thing you can take advantage of with Nouveau, that you won't find with the binary blobs, is Kernel Mode Setting. Smoother boot-up and smarter terminal switching.. Adds to the experience. Peace and quiet in a computer is worth a lot, if you ask me. To be fair, if it works, it works. Extra speed is often just a nice-to-have. I've insalled Lucid & Merket on about 4 PC's and I keep coming across an x configuration error. Basically the desktop losses its graphical sharpness sometimes on boot or after coming back after fullscreen games its bit intermitant. To get it correct itself I open the NVidia settings tool and re apply the resolution settings from Auto to 60 hz and 1600x900. It seems to be related to a cheap DELL monitor that I bought ?
