Meeting Agenda
by Dave
Dear All,
It's nearly meeting time again and I remember that it was mentioned that
an agenda would be good. So here we go.
I was thinking for a couple of items:
1. Web Site - Content (now we've got a good system)
2. Meeting places
3. Projects / Ideas for Lug to focus on?
4. Creating an association with another close by Lug
Please feel free to add / tweak items.
Thank you
Dave

Heya guys just a quick one.
What windows manager to you lot use mostly? I just switched myself over to
openbox and am loving it. Not that there's anything wrong with gnome etc. I
just like my desktop simple.

I'm an Apple fan

Well, I think the Apple girl in PCW on the Festi Park is yummy - does
that count?
Can't stand the hardware though - only one mouse button!

Ad' campaigns...
by Kevanf1
Hands up anybody who has seen the tv ad all about computer openess
etc. At first I thought "bloody hell, is this an ad on UK tv for
Ubuntu or Linux in general?" It was going on about how this company
is open so that everybody can collaborate and share in the 'open'.
Open was really pushed, can you tell. Then right at the end came the
clincher. It was an advert for bloody Microsoft!!!! Laugh, I
couldn't stop crying. It is an absolute blatant rip off of the open
source way of life.
I hope they get sued for it because it really is a nasty advert.

Don't get me wrong, I *love* the wireless article - (dear to my heart
since Ubuntu seems to have broken wireless networking in 8.10) but there
are LOADS of linux sites/lists working on problems and tech tips -
surely the emphasis for that StaffsLUG site has to be local info and
what's going on in our area?
For what it's worth; I don't see a problem with individuals contributing their own articles and having them on the site. Not sure having it on the front page is ideal. Why not have a section on the web site with links to outstanding howtos (perhaps acknowleging the popular distros of the day)? This would be a useful reference resource particularly for Linux newbies.
I think the list is a good place for help with narrow technical issues.
