Workforce Management FOSS
by Tom Hill
I was wondering if anyone could perhaps point me in the direction of any
open-source/free software that one may be able to use for workforce
management? Alternatives to something like Aspect eWFM, if you've heard
of it.
So far anything I've found online for the obvious search terms has been
related more to CRM, rather than internal employee management..
What it needs to do, basically, is import statistical data from call
centre telephony systems and forecast future resource planning around
staff hours/absences, etc.
Given the amount of money the proprietary products cost (hordes) if this
doesn't exist I'd be tempted to suggest that there's certainly a gap in
the FOSS market. :)
Any help, greatly appreciated!

Re: [Staffslug] Local Joomla! user Group
by Chris Williams
Hi,
When I was there, they where just introducing Visual Studio in a big way -
the problem was they wanted everyone to use ASP.Net for web development, the
problem being that to enable debugging the user had to be an admin on the
server... as you can imagine Staffs School of Computing (as it was called
back in the day ;) ) didn't really fancy the idea of 2000 students with
administrator rights.... :)
It would be amazing if we could put out a message on the internal email
system (if they still use mailing lists internally) about the group.. how
many people can we rescue from ASP.Net for their next web project? :)
Thanks again,
Chris -.

Adam, Andrew, Tom,
Sorry for the spam-esk mail, I know it's not wonderful and I did doubts of
doing it, however I know that LUG's know how difficult it is to get the word
out there some times..
Why just Joomla? Simply because we are all Joomla! users! We're a mix of
end users, template makers and extension developers all working on the
Joomla! framework, including Chris Davenport who's in charge of
documentation for the Joomla! project.
I also targeted the Staffs LUG as I used to be in Stafford at Uni, and I
remember how much money Microsoft was pumping into the uni after 2000. It
would be great if we could get through to the students there now that there
are alternitive platforms to be working on other than the .net framework (I
studied Internet Technology and the big push was towards a Microsoft
development stack, a royal pain when I wanted to develop in PHP and didn't
want to have to install XP on my machine, but what can you do... )
Thanks,
Chris -.

Local Joomla! user Group
by Chris Williams
Hi,
First of all - forgive the intrusion to your mailing list. I'll freely
admint that I'm not a member of the LUG, however I'm hoping this one-off
will be forgiven for a good cause!
We're setting up a Joomla! User Group for the West Midlands and my idea is
to talk to as many FOSS user groups as we can. The idea being that we
should be able to talk to a range of people from those managing large sites
to those who just want to set up a quick web site about their cats or
something!
We're also hoping that we'll be able to find people who are at the
universities in the west midlands. Anyone who can help us get some
promotion (ether email, posters etc) into any of the local Universities will
earn them selves a pint!
So, if you are interested in Joomla!, or are able to help us get the message
about the JUG into the uni's then I would be very happy to hear from you.
Check out the Facebook page at
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Joomla-User-Group-Midlands/192439294117172 ,
and our meetings are on the 1st Wednesday of each month in the center of
Birmingham.
Thanks for your time!

Why specifically a Joomla group?
Why not generic CMS? Or something? Just seems a bit too restrictive to me...
