Lo,
Not always like this, but I guess it'll happen occasionally... do stick
around for the drama if nothing else :)
I'm looking into installing inn2
<
https://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/inn/> and linking it to the
mailman3 <
http://list.org/> nntp runner
<
https://mailman.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/mailman/runners/docs/nntp.ht...
and handler
<
https://mailman.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/mailman/handlers/docs/nntp.h...;.
This'd mean you could connect to lists.staffslug.org.uk by NNTP in your
favourite newsreader (e.g. Thunderbird) just like it was Usenet :P
As you can see from the runner/handler links above - the documentation
is a little thin on the ground :S I'll probably build a separate box to
test it on, rather than breaking our mailing lists!
On the logo side of things, I've heard back from someone off-list with
some ideas for modifications. But other than that, all quiet - no
alternatives put forward. It'll go live on the site tomorrow unless
that situation changes.
p.s. *meeting tonight!! *see this message from the meetings@ list
<
https://lists.staffslug.org.uk/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/meetings@lists.st...
for information!

Awesome 90s-style flame war. Does Staffs LUG have a Usenet group
where
this could take place more often??
Seriously I miss that stuff.

What the hell Steven? I was giving feedback and you give me snark?
You want to do that email me privately. Don't use the lug mailing
list.
Moving on It's clear you know nothing about logo use because in
the case of redhat it's a registered trademark. Wikipedia or
wherever you got it from may have permission to use it. Go visit
their site. Go and read what they put up there regarding their
logo use.
It's clear my being a member of the LUG offends you somehow
despite the fact I generally don't attend the meetings and post
very little to the mailing list. I'll unsubscribe from the mailing
list and leave it be.

I like the 90's :)
The celebratory logo idea was Dave's... and it's not exactly
harming you. Also if anyone can/should pass judgement as to
whether this is/isn't a continuation or not (I don't care how
it's viewed - either way) then I'd say he has that say more
than I... as he co-founded the LUG 20 years ago :)
I'm up for a chat on use of logo's... but show me an actual
law. My guess (not a solicitor)... is it's fair use
especially as it isn't being used for commercial gain.
I got all the logos from Wikipedia (an excellent source of
vector's by the way!)...
<sarcasm> Wikipedia must be just *drowning* in all that legal
debt from all their logo misuse! </sarcasm>
