Excursion! Retro Gaming Night at Derby Computer Museum
by Steven Maddox
Lo!
A few of us are going to this event hosted by DCM (Derby Computer Museum)...
https://www.derbycomputermuseum.co.uk/byob-retro-gaming-nights
We're going on the 18th October 2025 (a Saturday) and we'll get to Derby
for around 6pm onwards.
So if you're in to some retro computing and retro gaming, it should be a
fun night. It's a BYOB event (bring your own bottle!) so we'll figure
out some designated drivers.
For now I've bought 5 tickets as I've heard (even before this first
announcement) from at least 5 people that are interested about this already.
If you also fancy going, just buy your ticket on that webpage... and let
us know you're also coming! It would be useful to co-ordinate transport.
I've been to DCM before (during the day, whilst doing a bit of shopping
in Derby town centre) and it was actually really very good... many
floors of some really well preserved machines, that you can really start
to just USE! So I can imagine this'll be an amazing night!
Thanks

LinuxBierWanderung 2025 - Blair Atholl, Scotland Oct 4th - Oct 11th
by J I
Hello,
This year's LinuxBierWanderung (Linux Beer Hike) is taking place in Blair
Atholl, Scotland from Oct 4th until Oct 11th (apologies for the short
notice).
LBW is a week-long event which takes place in a different European country
each summer (sometimes autumn) drawing together Open Source software
enthusiasts from more than a dozen different countries, for a combination
of talks, presentations, hands-on mini-projects, outdoor exercise, and good
food & drink. It is an entirely volunteer-run event, funded from a
combination of donations amongst the attendees towards the cost of the hall
and Internet access etc.
Visitors to each year's LBW arrange their own accommodation and travel to
the event and there is no set fee for attendance. This enables students on
a low budget to join in just as easily as Open Source consultants.
If you'd like to join in with this year's LBW, please register your details
(link below), Discussions about the event (and any number of other
arbitrary topics) take place on the mailing list, Signal, or IRC (links
below).
