Hi Steve,
1) I'm afraid I don't ever make it 'Hack Keele' events - my evenings
are
pretty much wiped out due to being a dad of 11 month old twins (which is
also why I haven't made it to a LUG meeting yet). Plus staff don't tend to
get involved too heavily in student societies. However, I reckon they
would love to hear from you - they are trying to put on some "seminars" for
the society, so having a talk from the LUG might go down well. I know the
society committee pretty well, so I can ask them what they think about you
giving a talk if you like?
2) Don't know either I'm afraid.
3) We have a new CIO who seems very Microsoft focussed. I think IT
services are now moving entirely over to Microsoft, so a lot of the old
Linux people have now left IT services - I don't really know anyone in IT
services anymore either as a result. However, CS have managed to avoid the
Linux cull - we still dual boot all of our machines, often teach using
Linux, and the vast majority of staff and postgrads members are using Linux
on their laptops and office machines.

1) I've been watching the 'Hack Keele' mailing list (seems any member of
the public can join Keele Union for free just on their site, then
subscribe to the society)... if you ever pop to any of their events let
me know and I'll tag along :) (and at least I'd know someone!)
2) Don't suppose you know a Robert McKay and Terry Dray? Function
Office will be working with them shortly on helping micro-charities that
they're tasking some students to help.
3) I've heard a rumour that Keele IT have someone running the show these
days - who has completely OUTLAWED (it's the way it was put to me!) any
of use Linux anywhere on campus (or I guess at least excluding the
students own systems). Any truth to this do you know?
A bunch of us (before we knew about point 3 above) did pop up (as their
in our building) to Keele IT to give them leaflets about the LUG before
the relaunch... as of yet, none have chosen to show (but they *seemed*
interested) - maybe it's as a result of point 3 possibly? Do you know
anyone in Keele IT? The only people we're aware of are now former
employees (maybe related :S).
