The IRC channel from before is still there, there now also a Discord channel (see the site for the link) and at some point there will be a an XMPP MUC room too. When the XMPP bit is done we'll look into some kind of bot to sync up the chat logs between all 3 protocols. When a bot relay the conversations between all 3 then I feel that mitigates the issue. The same approach is being used with the mailing lists as that can now be access via web forum (HyperKitty) and shortly there will also be NNTP access too. So essentially IRC and Mailing Lists are still the main basis of both instant chat and posting-like chat, it's just that each of them will have 2 additional ways of accessing them for convenience. Me personally I'll be sticking with IRC as I'm not really a fan of Discord (but others are) and probably NNTP when that is up and running.
