by Steven Maddox
New meeting announced...
This is pretty much copied and pasted from the website
<https://staffslug.org.uk/calendar/> but its here for everyone's
reference...
If anyone has any questions about the topic, just hit reply to this e-mail.
This is also going out on Facebook / reddit / Twitter / Meetup / Discord
so possibly some new faces too.
*Tuesday 6th December 2022*– Topic: End of year activities 2022
Presenter(s): Steven Maddox
Location:CoCoLab <https://staffslug.org.uk/events#Workshops>
Time: 6:30pm (main activities starting at 7pm)
* Catch up with one another, share what we’ve up to over the year!
* Show off even more improvements we’ve made to the room with an even
better vending machine and we’ve now got headsets for every desk (as
well as licenses for several games!).
* Brainstorm what we’d like to see in future workshops in 2023. We’ll
be announcing firm dates for the first couple of months of 2023
during the Christmas period.
* Plan any other events, perhaps even a Christmas social.
* Share any toys you want to show off (maybe look at a few Steam
Decks?) and if people want to they can do any mini talks if they’re
willing.
We're normally wrapped up within 2 hours, some people stick around longer.
So enough time to quickly get some tea (is that too northern? an
"evening meal" I guess) and then come out and join us :)
Details of that 'CoCoLab' venue are on the site
<https://staffslug.org.uk/events/#Workshops> but basically stick ST5 5NB
into your sat-nav/phone and you'll find a building that looks like the
below photo... be sure to use the 2nd entrance (it's the lower half of
the building) marked by the big red arrow I've drawn!
Park in any of the bays at that back entrance which are marked for use
by 'Internet Central' and use the doorbell on the 'Internet Central' door.
See you there :)

* What WINE actually does, what it stands, and when you should try and
use it.
* WINE forks (such as Cedega, Crossover, and Proton) and other
projects using Wine code.
* Easy to use interfaces for WINE such as Crossover, PlayOnLinux, and
others.
* Windows issues you’ll see in WINE and how things like ‘winetricks’
can help.
* Writing scripts to get Windows applications installed perfect every
time.
* How WINE can actually be better than running an application on Windows.

Christmas drinks
by Steven Maddox
Lo,
As mentioned in my 'Where the heck did 2022 go?' e-mail (over on the
general@ mailing list)... it'd be great to have another social before
the end of the year.
It's been suggested that this doesn't have to be the KPA and I was
thinking perhaps something closer to the main urban areas of N-u-L / S-o-T?
I've always fancied trying that place 'Hogarths' in Newcastle... but it
might just be because they have an upstairs sitting area called Juniper
and that keeps reminding me of the Cisco competitor :)
If anyone is up for this (perhaps with an idea of where to go too?) let
me know (either here, or directly via e-mail / Discord / IRC / etc)...
and I'll try to sort out a good date for us all to be free.
I'm hoping to also invite over people who have recently started to join
the new ORG Stoke (Open Rights Group) and FSFE Potteries (Free Software
Foundation) too... they're still in their early stages but they've got a
few sign ups already which don't overlap with the LUG.
Obviously people get busy around Christmas so there is little point in
me setting a now date and hoping for the best.
