Workshop about Exim (the mail transport agent) on 23rd May 2023
by Steven Maddox
*New workshop date confirmed!*
Robin Crorie will be covering the Exim MTA software.
An MTA being a "Mail Transport Agent" and is basically responsible for
receiving/sending e-mail between other MTAs online... basically the
entire reason why e-mail can be ran by anyone, and sent and received
to/from anyone!
For those curious about the mechanisms of e-mail... this will be useful
and cover things from the Exim perspective which Robin has a lot of
experience using. Other MTA's exist too such as Postfix, but regardless
of what you've had experience with, this should get you thinking
regardless of what you've used in the past.
Here is the agenda that is now on the website, hope to see you there.
*The Exim MTA (mail transport agent)*
* What is an MTA?
* Exim v Sendmail
* Exim's Linux environment
* The structure of Exim's configuration file
* "Feeding and watering" Exim
* Playing with Exim - Workshop session
As usual our doors will be open from 6pm onwards for a normal start time
of 7pm
Details of the venue are on the site
<https://staffslug.org.uk/events/#Workshops> but basically stick ST5 5NB
into your sat-nav/phone and you'll find a building that looks like the
below photo... be sure to use the 2nd entrance (it's the lower half of
the building) marked by the big red arrow I've drawn!
Park anywhere at that back entrance and hit the doorbell on the
"Internet Central" door.
See you there :)

LUG/ORGS/FSFEP Social Mixer on 9th May
by Steven Maddox
Lo,
This is just to let you know that we're hoping to do a social on the 9th
May at the KPA. The LUG had considered doing a Workshop but with the
Coronation madness we weren't sure, but perhaps just a pleasant drink
down the pub is enough... there won't be a presentation/topic like normal.
If you get this e-mail multiple times, it's only because you're on the
list of more than one group that I'm cross posting between (on this rare
occasion)... which is brilliant, so thank you very much for being on
more than one!
The social will be similar to the ones that the LUG has ran in the past,
only I think it makes sense to include everyone from all three groups as
there is likely a lot of overlap in terms of interest, so this is kind
of our first "*Social Mixer*" event!
Details are below as usual...
@Richard - can you do the social media stuff (if you didn't already at
the weekend)... sorry I didn't send this out at the weekend, just needed
to decompress after the week I've had!
I should be down there from roughly 6pm onwards and I know a few others
will be able to join me too shortly afterwards... so pop along whenever
you can.
*Address: *The KPA Clubhouse, 97 Horwood Road, Keele, ST5 5DY
*It's this building**marked 'Socials' on the Keele campus...* (with
'Workshops' being where SLUG / ORGS / FSFEP normally have meetings)
*And looks like this...*
Anyone who does get lost can always ring me too... 07708814199.
See you there.
